{"id":1144,"date":"2009-09-02T12:37:14","date_gmt":"2009-09-02T19:37:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bibik.org\/blog\/?p=1144"},"modified":"2009-09-02T12:37:14","modified_gmt":"2009-09-02T19:37:14","slug":"facebook-is-not-the-devil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bibik.org\/index.php\/2009\/09\/02\/facebook-is-not-the-devil\/","title":{"rendered":"Facebook is not the Devil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is so much FUD in this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/08\/30\/magazine\/30FOB-medium-t.html?_r=1&amp;ref=business\">NYTimes article about Facebook<\/a>, I had to retort. \u00c2\u00a0The article is full of troll-level\u00c2\u00a0misstatements, I&#8217;m almost thinking it&#8217;s a parody piece:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Facebook&#8217;s numbers are going up. \u00c2\u00a0They have more users and more unique views every month.<\/li>\n<li>They said an exodus happened when they pulled Scrabulous down. \u00c2\u00a0 Hi, Scrabble is a copyright-protected game. \u00c2\u00a0How would you like it if your work was copied and given away for free?<\/li>\n<li>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Postings that seem private can scatter and slip unpredictably into a sort of semipublic status.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0Hahaha, if you screw up and post something in a public forum, that&#8217;s your own fault.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;One day, on another Web site, she responded to an invitation to rate a movie she saw. The next time she logged on to Facebook, there was a message acknowledging that she had made the rating.&#8221; \u00c2\u00a0 That would only happen if she went to the review site through Facebook. \u00c2\u00a0No application can post to your profile without explicit authorization.<\/li>\n<li>The other complaints center around personal information used for advertising (Running the #3 website in the world probably requires a fantastic amount of money) and that the site seems stale (That&#8217;ll happen when you have 250 MILLION users).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There&#8217;s always a trend of \u00c2\u00a0&#8220;predicting the demise&#8221; of a heavyweight. \u00c2\u00a0I don&#8217;t love Facebook, I wouldn&#8217;t mind if something better came along but I&#8217;m not expecting it to disappear anytime soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is so much FUD in this NYTimes article about Facebook, I had to retort. \u00c2\u00a0The article is full of troll-level\u00c2\u00a0misstatements, I&#8217;m almost thinking it&#8217;s a parody piece: Facebook&#8217;s numbers are going up. \u00c2\u00a0They have more users and more unique views every month.
